- On Sunday Tribe finished the season going 20-6 in September to win one of the wild card berths. They also got to play Tampa Bay(who beat TEX on Monday) at home on Wednesday night. They lost to the Rays 4-0. Danny Salizar looked unhittable early but by the 3rd inning the TB hitters looked for the heat early in the count and teed off on it. Salizar has can throw the four seamer in the upper 90's, but it is straight as an arrow. He has a slider but needs to throw it around the zone consistantly. He needs to add a cutter/2 seam fastball and a change up. The Rays pitcher Alex Cobb could have been had. The Tribe hitters could not buy a clutch hit when it mattered. Nick Swisher in the postseason is hitting .156! He needs to alter his swing because it is long and during the playoffs you are facing ELITE pitchers not scrubs. He swings from his shoes! Bourn also did not do the job. Cobkeep throwing curveballs Bourn would not lay off. Asdrubal also was unclutch. Kipnis too. Santana, Brantley,Gomes and Chisenhall had great at bats. Unfortunately they were not in RISP situations. When you are hitting with RISP you can not try to kill the ball. Wait for the ball to travel in the zone and hit it up the middle or to the oppo field.

Going into tonight's game against DET ,Tribe had a 62-49 record & had won 10 of 11. However those wins have come against teams with bad records. With tonights 4-2 loss to the Tigers they are 3-10 vs DET. Here are records against other winning teams. NYY(1-6),BOS(1-6),TB(2-4), BAL(2-2), OAK(4-0),KC(8-5) and TEX(5-1). They will play BAL at home and at OAK. They also have to play at ATL. That means they are 26-34 vs winning teams. They are 36-15 vs losing teams. However they are 7-26 vs DET,BOS,TB & NYY. The big question why they can not beat the "BIG BOYS". The good teams have elite starting pitching and generally have hitters you fear. The Tribe rotation is not elite YET. Pitching well and scoring runs against bad teams look good stats wise but to win the ultimate prize you have to figure a way to score runs against ELITE pitchers like Clayton Kershaw. You also have have a #1 ace pitcher to go against Kershaw,Harvey,Wainwright etc. and shut down good hitting. Masterson has has trouble with good offenses like BOS,DET &BAL. He needs to do better against those teams because they could face a good offense like ATL or STL in the World Series. Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.com thinks the Tigers have what it takes to win in August & Sept. and Tribe do not. Jhnny Peralta is suspended for PEDs, but they still have talent. I am afraid the Tribe will not make the playoffs unless the front office adds a bat via the waiver trade. That is how you beat the BIG BOYS.

If the the Tribe are going to win the AL Central. These are going to be the keys after the All Star Break. First, they need to decide what to do with Carlos Santana. He is not an All-Star not because he is 2nd in OPS among AL catchers. Mauer is 1ST. He is not an All Star because he has been bad behind the plate. He does not frame pitches well. He also does not block pitches in the dirt. Is he lazy? Is it after he got hurt in August 2010, he does want to get down & dirty. He can be decent behind the plate, but he has to have the "want". One of my followers Steve Kinesella tweeted to me keep him at catcher for now, transition him to 1B/DH over time. The front office should look to trade for a catcher however. Second, they need to improve the pitching. My concerns is will Kazmir's shoulder and back can hold up. When McCallister returns from the DL will he regress because he perphial stats say he has been "lucky" despite his ERA is decent. Ubaldo has been decent at time but he still walks too many batters for me. I worry when the "bad" Ubaldo shows up and it cost the team a playoff spot. Masterson need to cut down on the walks and do a better job getting LHH out by adding a cutter and a changeup. Kluber's perphial stats say he has been unlucky but he needs to stop nibbling and get ahead of hitters consistantly. Bauer needs to pitch better in the minors and Carrasco has to do the same especially pitching inside without plunking. The front office should decide if they should trade for a starter. IMO yes they should. Third, the bullpen needs to pitch better. CP has gotten his fastball velocity back. He was hurt in May. Pestano needs to make a mechanical adjustment with his fastball & slider. When the BP enters mid inning they need to not let inherited runners score. Rich Hill is pitching better but they need to add another lefty reliver. Shaw should go to AAA to work on getting better movement on his pitches. Albers needs to pitch better in high leverage situations better. Lastly the offense could be better. Bourn needs to cut down on the K's. Swisher needs to start driving the ball better. Reynolds needs to lay off the high fastball and "zone down" on those pitches. If Chisenhall keep hitting the lineup will be more formidble. Hope Cabrera starts getting hot in the 2nd half. If those keys happen and they are close in Sept, look out!!!!
